Chosen by a distinguished panel comprised of some of the most forward-looking dentists in the industry, this year’s winners were narrowed down after lively debate.

Each month between now and October we will highlight a handful of the 18 honorees.

You’ll find general information on the product, insights from the panelists and a testimonial from a relatable user who has seen that excellence in his or her own practice.

All of this background prepares you to see the products in action at the “Best of Class” Technology Fair at the ADA Annual Session in New Orleans.

Gendex Scatter Reduction Technology (SRT)

Gendex introduced SRT™, Scatter Reduction Technology, to its award-winning GXDP-700 Cone Beam 3D system earlier this year. This new feature allows clinicians to reduce artifacts caused by metal or radiopaque objects such as restorations, endodontic filling materials, and implant posts.

The use of SRT image optimization technology delivers 3D scans with higher clarity and detail around scatter-generating material. SRT represents a significant aid when 3D scans are required for a variety of procedures from endodontic to restorative and the post-surgical assessment of implant sites.

“We continue to make significant investments in research and development to bring new, meaningful innovations to the market,” said Mike Bosha, Senior Product Manager for Gendex. “Our proprietary SRT technology further enhances the diagnostic capabilities of the modular GXDP-700 Series.”

The introduction of SRT to the GXDP-700 platform aligns with the Gendex design philosophy focused on delivering innovations with clinicians and patients in mind. The activation of SRT is a very simple and easy step. When a scan is prescribed near a known area of scatter generating material, the user only needs to select the SRT button from the GXDP-700 touchscreen interface to use this new optimization technology.

“Crisp and highly detailed images are paramount in order to make a proper diagnosis. The Scatter Reduction Technology allows the clinician to properly see the details of a patient’s oral structures even when the patient has metallic restorations.”

-Dr. Parag Kachalia

“By removing ‘reflections’ from the images, Gendex has given doctors more information and better viewing by simply improving software filters. SRT simply takes the images and makes them better.”

-Dr. John Flucke

In My Experience | Dr. Jay Weinberg, Cranford Endodontics

I share my Gendex GXDP-700 with a periodontist right next door. We do a lot of retreatment and cone beam shows you very clearly things you can’t see with a traditional 2D x-ray. With the latest update (SRT) you can create detailed views and get a much more accurate look at what you are trying to see.

It’s more diagnostic and has helped a lot. And from a periodontic standpoint, with implants you can’t work without this technology.

Isodry by Isolite Systems

The Isodry® dental isolation system is a proven, easy-to-use alternative to traditional forms of dental isolation, such as the rubber dam or manual suction and retraction. The system aids in dental procedures by improving patient management and giving dental professionals optimal control of the oral environment: keeping the patient mouth open, improving visibility, controlling suction and oral humidity, and minimizing sources of contamination.

The key to Isodry’s effectiveness are the Isolite Mouthpieces that work with the system. Morphologically correct Isolite Mouthpieces are available in five sizes and are designed to fit patients from pediatric to large adult.

The wide range of mouthpieces means it is now much easier to have effective isolation

for every patient of every size. Isolite Mouthpieces also provide an added measure of safety during the dental procedure-protecting the patient from foreign body aspiration and shielding the tongue and cheek from injury by the handpiece or other dental instruments.

“One of the best products in terms of ROI in dentistry. This is a product that benefits the patient, doctor and staff.”

-Dr. Parag Kachalia

In My Experience | Dr. Rollin Sarradet, Managing Partner, Rose Dental Group

As the Isodry ensures complete soft tissue retraction, as well as providing a rest for the patients’ teeth and jaw, I am able to perform my procedures with greater speed and efficiency.

This means reduced chair time for my patients and therefore less fatigue. The built-in suction, coupled with effective tongue retraction, allows me to perform bonding procedures with confidence that in the past would have required the use of a rubber dam to ensure proper isolation. This improves the comfort of the patient and ultimately the overall experience.

SciCan STATIM G4

SciCan’s G4 series is the newest member of the company’s STATIM family. The STATIM G4 is the same well-known and trusted autoclave it has been for more than 20 years but now boasts a new contemporary look and connectivity that is reportedly the first of its kind.

The G4 technology will change the way you interact by providing a direct channel of communication through the Internet to you, or anyone you desire. Still powered by SciCan’s signature steam technology to provide sterilization and dryness at speeds faster than conventional chambered autoclaves, the STATIM has been drastically upgraded.

  • Statim 2000 G4 cycle times: 6 minutes unwrapped – 14 minutes wrapped

  • Statim 5000 G4 cycle times: 9 minutes unwrapped – 17.5 minutes wrapped

  • A large 3.5” high-resolution touchscreen offers a vivid display of messages and current cycle information all with extraordinary clarity

  • SciCan’s STATIM G4 Technology offers a platform with numerous possibilities. The product expansion and modes of communication provide visibility from every facet, from usability to troubleshooting

  • Uses fresh steam distilled water with every cycle

  • Dri-Tec drying system for fast dry loads

In My Experience | Paul Feuerstein, DMD

What if your dental equipment told you that it was not working properly and knew what was wrong? The SciCan Statim G4 has a built in Internet port that communicates with the service department.

When there is a malfunction of a cycle or a breakdown of a part, a message is sent to the service center who in turn notifies the office. In addition it identifies the problem and if relevant, the faulty part and the service technician can come ready to work.

Additionally, the Statim keeps track of every cycle and there is a USB port allowing the office to get a report with that information to comply with state regulations. This is, of course, in addition to the excellent reliability of the Statim and its rapid turnover of equipment. The best little sterilizer has gotten even better.

Interactive Diagnostic Imaging TRU -ALIGN ™

Interactive Diagnostic Imaging’s Tru-Align Laser-Aligning X-Ray Positioning System incorporates rectangular collimation, which greatly reduces scatter radiation, resulting in clearer, crisper images and greatly improved image resolution.

Adding Tru-Align to your existing x-ray head is said to result in a 60-70% reduction in radiation exposure to your patients. Reducing scatter radiation is safer for your patients; focusing radiation means better diagnostic images; and positioning and aligning faster minimizes retakes.

“Tru-Align uses lasers and magnets to perfectly align the cone and the sensor... it beeps and snaps into place, even a rookie can take perfect radiographs with virtually no retakes.”

-Dr. Larry Emmott

In My Experience | Jeffrey C. Hoos, DMD, FAGD

It’s an amazing product. I have 10 operatories and everyone has a Tru-Align in it. It’s a practice builder as patients immediately see the benefit of radiation reduction and better clarity. Dentists should understand the features of better images including the elimination of cone cuts and retakes. Another benefit is the short learning curve.

You know you are successful when you hear the staff talking to the patients about the positive aspect of this state of the art product. This product balances the art science and business of dentistry. Tru-Align is the perfect addition.
