What

The MyPerioHealth app is a digitized version of the 2018 American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Staging and Grading Guidelines, providing dental professionals and patients with information beyond the diagnosis.

Where

The data is input, and the app provides the correct stage and grade in a couple minutes. The dental professional and patient benefit from the quick, accurate stage and grade determination and the ability to factor the information into the treatment plan, predict the disease course, and determine the appropriate maintenance interval.

When

The MyPerioHealth app was created to assist clinicians using the AAP Staging and Grading Guidelines by automating the process.

Why

The need to simplify the process of staging and grading was apparent shortly after the guidelines were established. Staging and grading manually can be cumbersome and time-consuming. The MyPerioHealth app streamlines the process and facilitates communication between the dental team and the patient.

The How*

The MyPerioHealth app provides vital information to the clinician and enhances the patient’s ownership and understanding of their case of periodontitis. The clinician can then discuss the severity, extent, and rate of progression of the patient’s case of periodontitis, rather than just indicating the presence of gum disease. Elevating the patient’s ownership and understanding of their disease will increase dialogue and case acceptance.
