June 17, 2010, Chicago, IL-Oral Health America (OHA) announces the launch of Fall for Smiles®, a public messaging campaign conducted in collaboration with Oral Healthcare Can’t Wait®, an initiative of the Dental Trade Alliance. The campaign begins in September to promote messages to consumers about the importance of self care, good nutrition, regular dental visits, and tobacco avoidance in maintaining oral health.

Children throughout the country have their sites set on showing off cool costumes this weekend and on bringing home bags stuffed with candy. Many children look forward to this day throughout the year, but taking in too many of these sugary snacks clearly isn’t good for their overall health or for their smiles.

Lisa Harper Mallonee, the mother of two children ages 2 and 3, wasn’t happy with the food being served at the preschool they attend. She noticed that sugary snacks and fatty meats were the norm. “They served Cheerios and apple juice at snack time,” she said. “I suggested using string cheese instead of Cheerios and turkey hotdogs instead of baloney hotdogs.”

CHICAGO, March 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The health care reform bill passed by Congress, and now signed into law by President Obama, includes many provisions that will improve the nation's oral health. Most significantly, the bill does guarantee oral health coverage for children and allows for resources to extend oral disease prevention measures in every state.  Over time, the bill's provisions can help to increase access to care for all ages.  

You don’t want to catch it when it’s easy to see. By then, it may be too late. As a dental professional, you need to spot possible problems in the early stages, when treatment is less invasive and chances for survival are higher.

Just 12% of people nationwide are health literate, according to Gary Podschun, the ADA’s manager of community outreach and cultural competence.
