Ivoclar Vivadent is offering a wide array of educational courses in 2013, including two new procedural based workshops for laboratory technicians and ceramists, as well as master level courses taught by world-renowned ceramists and educators. These courses complement Ivoclar Vivadent's extensive curriculum of technology, masters, In-Lab, and removable program sessions.

Taking place at education and training centers in New York, California, Nevada, Canada, and Florida, these in-depth and hands-on courses offer dental laboratory professionals and ceramists in North America an agenda and location ideal for enhancing their skills using today's advanced materials and techniques.

One of the two new course offerings is the Full Contour Waxing Workshop, a 1-day course in which attendees will learn the fundamental concepts for developing proper wax contours and occlusion in a detailed diagnostic wax-up, as well as strategies for transferring these contours to the final restoration. With the growing popularity of ceramic pressing technology for either monolithic, bi-layer, or “press-to” restorations, the art of full contour waxing remains one of the most important skills for today’s dental technician.  Whether it is a diagnostic wax-up to guide the treatment planning for large reconstructions, or final waxing of the definitive restoration, the techniques for developing esthetic and functionally correct contours in wax must be skillfully employed to guarantee a great restorative outcome. Basic tuition is $249 per attendee.

Also new in 2013 is the Porcelain Fused to Metal Workshop featuring IPS InLine. In this 2-day course, attendees will learn the principles and techniques for producing restorations with IPS InLine One (single layer ceramic), as well as IPS InLine PoM (Press-on-Metal).  There is increasing pressure to produce high quality restorations using more efficient and cost effective methods, and the IPS InLine system offers a full range of materials to support traditional layering of PFM restoration, as well as 2 distinctive materials well suited to promote “lean manufacturing practices” in the dental laboratory. Basic tuition is $399 per attendee.

The Introduction to Press Technology course covers the fundamentals of the IPS e.max technique, including IPS e.max components for pressing (IPS e.max Press and IPS e.max ZirPress) and IPS e.max Ceram for the layering fabrication technique.  Additional topics include patient-dentist-laboratory communication, as well as indications, contraindications, preparation requirements, and cementation and bonding requirements. During the hands-on portion of this 2-day course, attendees fabricate a variety of ceramic restorations, including an anterior IPS e.max Press LT crown using the cutback technique, IPS e.max Press posterior crown using the staining technique, and an IPS e.max ZirPress crown using the staining technique. Basic tuition is $499 per attendee.

Other course offerings include the Press Layering Workshop featuring IPS e.max; the Smile Design Workshop featuring IPS e.max (Press or CAD/CAM); the Introduction to CAD/CAM Technology featuring Sirona InLab course; Introduction to CAD-on Technology, and Introduction to Complete Dentures A-Z.
