Vision

Designed to be user friendly but powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, SoftSmile aligner software allows orthodontists to create clear aligner treatment plans completely in-house. The software platform creates a 3D model of the treatment plan, including a visualization of teeth roots and lower jaw movements throughout treatment. The software’s AI generates key aspects of the treatment plan including the final set up of aligned teeth based on biomechanics to model optimized teeth movement and the number of aligners needed to achieve the desired results. The orthodontist maintains control of the process throughout. The SoftSmile software is not yet FDA 510(k) approved, but orthodontists can request use on a trial basis.

Why this software stands out:

Going beyond treatment planning, SoftSmile is designed to be an end-to-end solution, and the software automates the 3D printing to simplify the aligner production. The company is working with 3D printing company Carbon to tightly integrate the software with the manufacturing platform to make distributed dental printing accessible to more orthodontists and more patients.

Splendor™ SAP Single-Adaptable-Post

Designed to be adaptable to the canal flare, Splendor SAP posts feature a vertically sliding conical sleeve that can be positioned to fit the canal being treated. The sleeve and the post are both fabricated from fiber-reinforced composite, and the posts can be used with or without the sleeve. This adjustable post system allows a pointed, parallel post to become a custom post when necessary. The posts are available in a single narrow size of 0.65mm apical / 1.0mm coronal, and work in conjunction with a single shaping drill. This simplified system is designed to minimize inventory while also discouraging over-preparation of the canal.

What makes these posts innovative:

While the adjustable sleeves allow these posts to be fit to the unique shape and size of the canal being treated, the post system provides benefits beyond easy customization. The sleeve provides a material with high mechanical properties to surround the post, reportedly increasing the strength of the post and core. Also, the coronally emerging post and sleeve combination provides a larger and stronger nucleus for the core build-up.

UV Angel Air

A discrete air treatment solution, UV Angel Air is integrated into a traditional ceiling light fixture where it uses ultraviolet light to continuously treat the air. Air in the room with the system is drawn in via a series of fans and filters and then circulated through a sealed UV-C chamber, where it is treated with high intensity light and then returned to the room to reportedly create a healthier and safer environment. The UV-C light is capable of inactivating bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The unobtrusive solution is designed to work in the background without requiring any interaction from staff.

Why this system is different:

With its integrated LED light, UV Angel Air is able to hide in plain site. Replacing existing ceiling lighting, the system is easy to integrate into many spaces and does not take up any additional space in the room. Because it is always working in the background, there is no need to adjust clinical workflows.
