The second part of the Tech Census offers insight from DPR Technology Editor Dr. John Flucke on the five technology categories covered. This section focuses on digital radiography technology.
Digital radiography has passed “the tipping point.” The benefits are well known and the technology works as expected. I really feel that this is no longer an “if” technology, it is now a “when.” There are many, many benefits to going with digital radiography, but time savings is probably the biggest one for me.
Being able to reduce an endodontic appointment by 30 minutes is a tremendous advantage for both the patient as well as the doctor. Being able to view a radiograph from any computer in the office makes diagnosis faster and easier. Lower radiation and no chemical disposal makes it safer for patients and the environment.
In all my travels and communication with dentists, I’ve never heard of someone who, in the long run, thought the investment in digital radiography was a bad one. The technology is mature and dependable, just do it!
