North Carolina-based pharmaceutical company Balanced Pharma has announced that its acid-free anesthetic cartridge technology has received a second patent from the United States Patent & Trademark Office. This will allow clinicians to administer acid-free local anesthetics in a standard dental cartridge, according to a press release from the company.

This new drug candidate is called BPI-001, as of right now, and it aims to be a seamless replacement for dental practices by taking the form of a standard cartridge. The proposed product is comprised of a buffered lidocaine/epinephrine formulation.

Because of patients’ desire for better, less unpleasant anesthetic, Balanced Pharma has created an anesthetic that removes the acid, which is proven to produce faster onset, less injection pain, and increased reliability. Balanced Pharma’s CEO Dr Scott Keadle says that this acid-free anesthetic cartridge could be great for both patients and providers.

“We’re proud to be a company founded by practicing clinicians, working to deliver a product to provide patients more comfort,” Dr Keadle says in the press release. “We knew if we could provide acid-free anesthetic in a standard cartridge, that would be a huge win for providers and patients, and we’re well-poised to deliver on that promise. Stay tuned.”
