Patients expect you to know how much their insurance will cover for certain procedures, which isn’t always the case. Here’s how to have a successful conversation with patients about benefits.

Conversations with patients about insurance benefits and specific dental benefit summaries don’t always go well. Penny Reed of Penny Reed and Associates says she understands your struggle.

Usually patients depend on dental staff to help them figure out how much insurance will cover.

Here’s the trouble-you can’t count on anything unless it’s in writing, even if you’ve spoken to an insurance company.

So, how do you get yourself out of the middle between the patient and the insurance company? Reed says it’s simple, but many times we make it harder on ourselves.
