Ever buy a car or any other big-ticket item when you were in a bad mood? Neither have your patients.

Ever buy a car or any other big-ticket item when you were in a bad mood? Neither have your patients.

If you’re feeling a bit like Ehore today and just aren’t in the mood to spread the cheer, you’ve just given yourself another reason to be in a bad mood: you’re losing money.

No one feels much like spending money when they’re in a bad mood, and the way you act in the operatory is contagious. People don’t want to buy much from Debbie Downer, said Penny Reed Limoli, owner of the Reed Limoli , and if you or a staff member is giving off a negative vibe, your patients will pick that up and shrug off any treatment you might recommend.

Even if you’re just not feeling it, you and your team members have to find a way to give off positive energy to your patients. It makes their overall experience so much better, and makes them want to come back to your practice. Stay upbeat and you may even help cheer up a patient who’s having a bad day or simply doesn’t want to be at the dentist. And, of course, happier patients are more likely to go forward with needed treatment and tell family and friends what a great experience they had at the dentist today.
