Is your dental practice or dental lab throwing away money? According to Josh Daab of Atlantic Precious Metal Refining, that’s happening way too often to way too many dental professionals.

“On an average year, the average dental practice will save eight to 10 ounces of scrap, which is failed crown and bridge material out of the mouth. For every ounce of dental scrap, the dentist should be getting back about $400,” Daab said. “So that jar in the dental office that usually ends up as the collection jar should garner about $4,000 coming back to the dentist.”

Daab recently sat down with Dental Products Report and Dental Lab Products to talk about this surprising number and the e-book that APMR is sponsoring titled, “5 ways your choice of refining company could be costing you money.” You can download the free e-book by clicking here.

“Many dentists dispose of old crown and bridge without recovering any of the asset,” Daab said. “Many times they’ll sell it to someone who walks through the door and the doctor will only get about 20 percent of what it’s actually worth if they do it this way.”
