For Julie Johnston, RDH, the AirFloss from Philips Sonicare has become a mainstay in her downtown Denver practice. When asked why, Johnston is quick to answer.

“I was part of a test group that chose two patients, one male and one female, and neither of whom liked to floss," she said. "They both had issues with their tissue and numerous bleeding points, especially on their lower anterior teeth where they have a permanent orthodontic arch wire.

"After using the AirFloss, they came back and I was amazed by what I saw. They both had nice, healthy, pink tissue. They talked about how easy the AirFloss was to use. As dental professionals, we’re always a little skeptical when we hear about a new product, but when I saw what the AirFloss did, I was amazed."

“We all have those patients who don’t floss and don’t even want to put their fingers in their mouth," Johnston continued. "Older patients who might have arthritis or an inability to floss properly would appreciate the AirFloss.

"It also is great for teenagers who don’t always have the best compliance with cleaning their braces. The AirFloss works fabulously well for all of these patients. Some people use mouthwash in it for a burst of freshness, but other people chose to use just plain water."

“I tell dental professionals to try it themselves and see the difference. I also encourage them to select a couple of patients in their practice and do an in-office study and see with their own eyes the before-and-after with the AirFloss. Once dental professionals try this and incorporate it into their practice, they will be amazed at how well it works.”
