vhf has unveiled its newest milling machine, the E3, which is designed to cut out thermoformed appliances such as aligners, splints, and others. The E3 Milling Machine uses TRIMCAM software to recognize the so-called trimline on which the appliance will be milled out from the planning data, according to a press release from vhf. E3 weighs in at 25 kg, making it compact enough to fit anywhere. It also features CNC production and can be operated from anywhere in the lab or practice.

Eliminating the manual work of trimming will be a great way to optimize workflows, according to Head of Product at vhf camfacture AG, Lucas Kehl.

“The trimming of thermoformed splints is still strongly characterized by manual work. Nevertheless, orthodontists, but also increasingly dentists, expect a consistently high quality especially in this field,” Kehl says in the press release. “So, from the very beginning, it was our concern to enable process reliability and at the same time to optimize the use of resources in the practice environment. Of course, cost considerations also play a significant role, as the number of patients who, for example, decide for an aligner treatment is constantly growing. And unlike bite splints and grinding splints, aligners require an entire series.”

ES also features a collection draw for chips to eliminate the need for an external suction unit. It is said to be manufactured using high quality components to make for easier maintenance and enhanced durability.
