I had the pleasure of meeting Tom Gillen, President /Design & Engineering for ClikTech, at the 2012 RDH Under One Roof in Las Vegas, where he was demonstrating both the ClikStik™ and the ClikRay™ system for digital and x-ray film radiography. With some hesitation I listened to what he had to say…from there my interest was sparked.

As I waited for this new, easy system to arrive, I found I was excited to give it a try.

The ClikStik™ system works with all digital sensors, x-ray film and PSP Plates. It is very flexible and easy to use. Even better, it works with any other biteblock from any other manufacturer. And when it comes to sterilization the entire system is fully autoclavable. Other sensor and film systems have several rings, rods and biteblocks. To try to figure out how it all fits together is most confusing. The ClikStik™ system has one ring, one rod and one ClikStik™ that works with all biteblocks. Very simple!

I found the short handles that the biteblock and ring attach to are the best part of this system. The rod not only slips into biteblock, but allows it to slip through it, allowing it to get closer to the patient’s cheek for more accurate images. There are no pins on the rod to break, either. They are lightweight, easier to use with less parts, the pins will never fall out and cost a fraction of what the current metal ones cost.

Then there is the ClikRay™ system. This system has models that hold sensors, traditional x-ray film and PSP plates. There is a ClikRay™ system for Dexis® and Dexis® Platinum Sensors, Kodak Carestream, both original Schick and Schick ELITE®. It is a holder that has an optional three position ClikGuide™ Ring that allows you to “click” it into the correct position. The middle position can be used for upper and lower anterior views and bitewings as well as for endodontic positions. Click the ring to the upper position and you have it ready for the UL and LR positions. Click it to the lower position and you will be ready to go for the LL and UR position. This complete system will work with both parallel and bisecting angle techniques, is completely autoclavable, and most important … you only need one instrument to take an entire full-mouth radiographic series.

The ShaRing™ system has the square collimation design, which also has built in wire clips, all the way to the Litening Rods™ to keep the sensor wire out of your way. One single ring can be used for anterior, posterior and bitewing views.

The Litening Rods™ are a new take on the traditional rods. They are made of reusable lightweight autoclavable plastic. The pins do not break and each rod incorporates a built-in wire clip for your digital sensors. Sterilization was considered in the design, and as mentioned above, the system is completely autoclavable. There also are ClikRay™sensor covers available that are sold in three different sizes to allow a great fit to fit any sensor. They have rounded corners, soft edges and an open lip design to allow easy access to slip sensors into cover. As an added bonus, each cover is imprinted with its size. No more confusion on which cover to take for your sensor. Each box has 500 covers made of polyethylene plastic for a very low cost, and some of them are biodegradable. As an extra wow, this product is made in the USA.

Remember to ask for Tom and tell him I sent you. Taking x-rays is only a “Clik” away.

ClikRay, ClikStik and ShaRing

The ClikRay’s proprietary design makes it adaptable to a wide range of dental sensors. It works with both Bisecting Angle and Parallel Cone techniques, while the dual head design allows flexibility to take anterior, posterior and bitewing views. ClikRay has no bulky pieces or sharp edges and is said to be comfortable for patients. The ClikStik™ system works with all digital sensors, x-ray film and PSP Plates. It is very flexible and works with any other biteblock from any other manufacturer. The entire system is fully autoclavable. The ClikStik™ system has one ring, one rod and one ClikStik™ that works with all biteblocks. The ShaRingTM Universal Ring and LiteningTM Rods dental sensor and x-ray film holders combine new and old technologies. The ShaRing is a single ring designed to replace the need for three separate rings used in a full mouth series. Litening Rods replace metal rods and are constructed of high heat plastic resin, are autoclavable, reusable and described as economical as well as lightweight.
