Nobio announced FDA clearance for additions to its Infinix line

Nobio announced FDA clearance for two new additions to its Infinix™ restoratives line - Universal Bond and Universal Composite.

Nobio announced FDA clearance for two new additions to its Infinix™ restoratives line - Universal Bond and Universal Composite.

Nobio’s QASi antibacterial technology, which provides an antibacterial cleansing effect, is featured in the Universal Bond, the company said in a press release. The Universal Composite also features Nobio’s QASi particles to protect against degradation by bacteria and maintains restoration integrity, the statement said.

Quaternary ammonium silica-dioxide, or QASi particles, are part of Nobio’s antimicrobial particle family. Because these particles are retained in the filling material following polymerization and are insoluble, the particles have a long-term effect, Nobio said in the press release.

The Infinix Universal Composite’s potential antibacterial benefit is the subject of an ongoing clinical trial at the School of Dentistry of the University of California, San Francisco (USCF).

“A restorative composite with long-term anti-bacterial properties may have a significant impact on the longevity of restorations and the preservation of natural teeth,” said Peter Rechmann, DMD, Ph.D., Prof. Dr. med. dent., Professor of Prosthodontics and Director of Clinical Sciences Research Group at the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences and the principal investigator of the UCSF study. “In our study, we use a well-established approach for assessing anti-caries effects of novel materials, and if successful, I believe composites with QASi technology should be part of the standard toolkit of restorative dentistry.”

A continuing education (CE) course featuring the Infinix technology will soon be available through the ADA’s CE program, Nobio said.

Nobio’s Infinix brand is a dental material product line, a materials science company that offers antimicrobial products and solutions. Nobio currently focuses on dental applications where bacteria are the leading cause for failure of most treatments and devices.
