Product review: Mobile True Definition Scanner

Article

This tablet-based mobile intraoral scanner from 3M helps to make you more mobile.

Mobile tablets, commonplace in many aspects of clinical practice in health care settings, have arrived in the dental industry with the introduction of the 3M™ Mobile True Definition Scanner.

The ergonomic design is similar to other rechargeable tablets, allowing clinicians to move freely between operatories without power cords or carts. Flexible mounting options help to minimize workspace clutter, offering more space for the clinician and assistant to maneuver in small spaces.

But the benefits are not only for the operator: Patient communication is made easy with a system that can be placed directly into the hands or lap of a patient, where they can experience a digital visualization of their oral anatomy and gain a better understanding of proposed treatments. These easy-to-understand visuals of the anatomy are said to help you explain treatment plans and increase patient acceptance.

Other features include:

  • Restorations created from scans are proven to be more accurate than other leading intraoral scanners, with a 99.7-percent fit rate

  • The scanner is supported by an open and secure cloud-based platform

  • Dentists can reportedly work with their existing labs to prescribe the best material solution

  • The tablet is paired with smallest wand on the market
