Crowns and bridges made of high-strength pressed ceramics are among the most reliable, predictable options for restoration of function and esthetics.

Crowns and bridges made of high-strength pressed ceramics are among the most reliable, predictable options for restoration of function and esthetics.

Like all restorative materials, these specialized ceramics rely on proper technique paired with appropriate instrumentation to achieve success.

Komet USA’s diamond discs, abrasives and polishers are engineered for use with modern pressed ceramics. For every step in crown-and-bridge work, from deflasking to polishing, Komet® instruments are designed to be suited for precise, simplified application in the dental lab.

• The Komet® 924XC diamond disc is said to simplify deflasking pressed ceramic. Its large size facilitates deep cuts, and its honeycomb structure optimizes chip removal and prevents jamming.

• Flexible Komet® diamond discs can be employed to separate casting sprues:

- The coarse-grit 6942.HP.200 facilitates initial separation and contouring

- The 918PB.HP.220 is coated on both sides for rough grinding and separating as well as contouring

- The ZR943.FG.100 medium-grit diamond disc cuts sprues from pressed ceramics and separates copings from zirconia blanks

• Trimming instruments include Komet® DCB diamond abrasives, which reportedly work very quickly with little user-applied pressure, producing a super-fine finish for easily polished surfaces. When using a highspeed handpiece for trimming, Komet® ZR-Diamonds, available in coarse-, medium- and fine-grit versions, are appropriate for a range of applications, from adjusting prostheses to smoothing copings.

• Developed to efficiently smooth and impart a high shine when used for final polishing of restorations fabricated of zirconium oxide, aluminum oxide and lithium disilicate, Komet® ZR Flash Polishers™ produce an outstanding sheen in just two steps. The polishers are identified by color: blue for smoothing and pre-polishing, gray for high-shine final polishing.
