Adding to a growing list of meeting cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the FDI World Dental Federation has announced the cancellation of the World Dental Congress 2020.
Originally scheduled for Sept. 1-4 in Shanghai, China, the FDI Council had partnered with the Chinese Stomatological Association (CSA) to organize this meeting, and plans to work with CSA to reschedule the WDC in a future year.
“This decision to cancel the congress was not taken lightly, but was considered necessary, as the world will still be recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and countries will be at different stages in the management of this disease,” the FDI said in a statement. “The focus must, therefore, remain on the people and the patients and ensuring they get the best care possible, with the least disruption.”
“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this unprecedented public health crisis. In the coming weeks, we will contact our members separately with specific information on how the congress cancellation will affect World Dental Parliament meetings,” said FDI President Dr. Gerhard Seeberger and Executive Director Enzo Bondioni.
