Members of DentaQuest, a Medicaid dental benefits administrator, will now be able to access teledentistry.com, a telehealth platform specifically designed for dental patients, as part of a new partnership between the 2 groups. Medicaid and commercial dental plan members under DentaQuest will now have access to live, virtual teledental care, connecting with licensed practitioners over video in lieu of in-person visits. Through teledentistry, patients can consult with their dentists without ever leaving the comfort of their own home, all while receiving possible treatment and oral health education as well.

“Together, DentaQuest and Teledentistry.com bring decades of leadership and program expertise to our comprehensive nationwide provider network,” Brett Bostrack, chief network officer at DentaQuest, says in a press release from the company. “Virtual visits present a great new opportunity to ensure everyone––no matter where you are or what time of day––can access quality, efficient, and effective oral health care. They also help to alleviate overburdened hospital emergency departments and dental practice front-office staff.”

In the press release, DentaQuest claims that teledentistry has the added benefit of saving money for the patient, with 30% of patients in a pilot program not needing a follow-up after their initial consultation. Teledentistry also enables patients to potentially avoid emergency room visits, instead directing them to 24/7 virutal consults that can address any nontraumatic dental conditions, according to chief executive officer of Teledentistry.com, Dr Vilas Sastry.

“We are excited to help expand access to dental care for DentaQuest members all over the country,” Dr Sastry says in the press release. “Teledentistry is not only an effective delivery model to reduce reliance on emergency rooms for nontraumatic dental conditions, but also a pathway to improved preventive care for thousands of people, and we look forward to growing this partnership.”

DentaQuest Medicaid and CHIP members will also be able to take advantage of Member Engagement for Sustainable Healthcare, which are care services such as caries risk assessment, preventive education, home care monitoring, pediatric outreach and more, provided through Teledentistry.com.

DentaQuest and Teledentistry.com aim to make these services available for members in 20 states by the end of 2023. To learn more, visit the website here.
