Why did NuSmile start manufacturing pediatric crowns?

Why did NuSmile start manufacturing pediatric crowns?

The main reason that NuSmile® Crowns were developed was to offer an affordable and esthetic alternative to unsightly stainless steel crowns, especially important for the restoration of a child’s anterior teeth.
For many years, early childhood caries (ECC) has been the most common disease in children. Dental caries is five times more common than asthma, four times more common than childhood obesity and 20 times more common than childhood or juvenile diabetes. The disease tends to disproportionately effect socio-economically deprived and low income children. So, looking back, the real reason we got started in this business was to help give kids a normal smile by eliminating the social and psychological impact of the “stainless steel smile.” We knew there had to be a better option.
This year, our company celebrates 20 years since the introduction of the first generation of NuSmile Crowns.

What kind of dental professional uses NuSmilecrowns?

At first our business was mostly pediatric dentists, but more and more family practice dentists are also using NuSmile Crowns. The main reason dentists choose NuSmile is because our solution is quick and easy and can be accomplished in a single visit. It’s not a technique sensitive procedure like for a composite strip crown or composite filling. Our crowns can also be used when there is very little tooth structure remaining.

What makes NuSmile different?

Our manufacturing process utilizes strategic reinforcement to strengthen all critical crown surfaces and we have a unique proprietary molecule for attaching the crown coating to the stainless steel understructure. NuSmile is the only esthetic crown manufacturer to be ISO 13485 Certified for design and manufacturing of pre-veneered crowns.

What differentiates crowns?

Independent fracture and fracture/fatigue testing have verified the strength of NuSmile’s esthetic coating to the stainless steel crown. NuSmile has consistently achieved above average strength test results compared to the few other esthetic crowns on the market. There has also been clinical data gathered that proves the durability of the esthetic coating of a NuSmile Crown.

What do parents think of your product?

In one of the recent clinical studies evaluating NuSmile Crowns, parents were asked what they thought of their child’s restorations. Overall parent satisfaction was 93%. And 91% of the parents said they would choose NuSmile Crowns if their child needed another pediatric restoration.

Where will NuSmile be 20 years from now?

Our company is constantly researching new ways to improve our products. In addition, we work with industry-leading practitioners to make constant improvements and revolutionize solutions for restoring kid’s teeth. Our mission is to give all kids a healthy, good looking smile and dentists the best possible solution. We are in this for the long haul.
