The American Academy of Dental Oncology has partnered with leading experts in oncology and oral health to launch an educational initiative for dental professionals.

The event will take place in Frisco, Texas, from Nov. 13-14, 2015, and is designed to prepare dental professionals to care for the unique oral health needs of patients with cancer.

"Dental professionals are at the front lines of addressing oral-systemic issues in concert with our medical colleagues," AADO Founder Dr. Dennis M. Abbott, DDS, said. "It is up to us to not only care for the needs of patients undergoing cancer treatment but to utilize our dental skills to provide a survivorship plan that allows survivors to maintain a high quality of life that includes their oral health."

The two-day conference covers primary dental care for oncology patients, including xerostomia, mucositis, trismus, immunosuppressive oral conditions due to primary cancer treatment, medically related osteonecrosis of the jaw *MRONJ) and osteoradionecrosis (ORN). Other topics and foci of study include condition-specific survivorship care, direct patient communication and tailored marketing strategies for oral health professionals in the medical community, as well as overall practice implementation.

AADO is committed to providing oral health professionals with a dental oncology education continuum that can be scaled to the specific needs of the attendee in his or her practice. As a part of the course, attendees will receive an iPad Mini preloaded with the exclusive AADO app that will provide presentation information and a sustainable, interactive knowledge base that will engage professionals beyond the classroom.
