We recently sat down with Dr. John Flucke, technology editor and chief dental editor for Dental Products Report, to talk about the GXS-700 sensors from Gendex.

Q: You use these sensors in your practice in Lee’s Summit, Mo. What first drew you toward them?
A:
I’ve been a Gendex owner for almost a decade. I selected them because I was looking for high quality products. When I surveyed the market, Gendex was an easy choice for me.

The main benefits of the GXS-700 to me are ease of use and placement. They’re designed to go into the patient’s mouth easily. They’re very comfortable for the patient, and that’s always important. They’re also a direct USB solution, which makes it a plug-and-play solution that is easy for my staff.

Those things are all great, but the No. 1 thing to me about these sensors is the detail of the clinical images. The GXS-700 sensor provides incredible images.

Q: You have a great story about the first time this sensor was used in your practice. Would you mind sharing it?
A:
Absolutely! My hygienist, Nikki Hayes, was the first one to use the sensor in our practice. We suddenly heard her saying into our radios, “You guys have to get down here and see this.” She called us down to see it because the image was that
amazing. To this day, I’m still thrilled with it. I’m still looking at the images and routinely blown away by what I see.

Q: You were actually the first clinician to use these sensors in your practice every day. So, really, this was a pretty historic moment for your team and Gendex, right?
A:
You bet. Nikki actually took the first digital radiograph the sensor captured in a truly clinical environment. It made quite an impression on me and my staff … and we’re not always easily impressed.

From that moment, we knew we were going to get amazing images. We get a chance to try out and play with a lot of stuff in my office. My staff sometimes is not so wowed about some things that maybe might wow another staff, but the images that come off these sensors are eye-opening. From resolution to the sharpness of the image to the delineations, you could see it was definitely game changing.

Q: What would you tell your colleagues about Gendex and these sensors?
A:
I really truly feel that Gendex, as a company, is concerned not only about the doctor but about the patient, as well. From the day we got the
GXS-700, my staff and I made sure to move the sensor around between operatories and computers while using it with a variety of positioners. We all came away impressed and still are. It’s a workhorse that I can count on to provide a great diagnostic image without the need for further digital enhancement.

Q: You’ve also used the GXS-700 sensors with the NOMAD portable X-ray device, correct?
A:
Absolutely. We’ve used the shorter positioning bars that are specifically designed for GXS-700 sensors. They’re a little more than two inches shorter than standard aiming bars, and they’re available in every version a dental practice would need.

GXS-700
The GXS-700 sensors are designed to make migrating from film, or upgrading a digital system, easier than ever. As the eighth-generation digital system from Gendex, the GXS-700 comes from a strong lineage of imaging excellence, raising the performance bar for other digital sensors. From ease-of-use and portability to enhanced acuity and sustainability, these new sensors underscore Gendex’s desire and commitment to help advance your practice with innovative and affordable solutions.
