When it comes to restorations, the goal is straightforward: to return the tooth to its natural state and function. How you achieve your goal is less clear, however, relying on skill and, in many cases, artistry to get the results you need for your patient.

Many clinicians have said that they need a reliable and universal adhesive they can use once they have assessed the case and decided on their etching technique.

With so many choices, it is no wonder clinicians appreciate when they find a universal adhesive appropriate for use in all of their cases. DENTSPLY’s Prime&Bond Elect® Universal Dental Adhesive is one such adhesive. Many clinicians use it for all their restorations because it gives them a consistent and strong bond with tight seals that cause little post-operative sensitivity. Also, it has extremely low film thickness which can minimize the risk of misdiagnosis or recurrent decay on a radiograph as higher film thickness adhesives can pool and cause this issue.

Why did you first begin to use Prime&Bond Elect?
I practice in the north Dallas area with Blue Sky Dental. My staff and I pride ourselves on making sure that every product we use is the best that science has to offer and provides patients with an efficient and effective treatment.

I was experimenting at the time with the universal bonding solutions. I was looking for a bonding agent that was reliable and versatile. My sales rep did a demo of it, and I gave it a try. I have been using it ever since, for about a year now.

I also like that it is part of the Class II solution system from DENTSPLY. It’s a well-integrated system, and the fact that the adhesive is from the same manufacturer gives you the confidence that it will work well with the other products that are part of their Class II restoration materials.

What do you like best about the product?
It’s a pretty versatile product, as far as using it in total-etch, self-etch or selective-etch procedures. From working with composite to other restorative materials, I’ve gotten consistent results.

With some of the other products I used I had the problem of composites coming off. I admit that it could have been due to the curing light or technician area, or having a dry field. But even considering that, I still had problems more often.

What have been the benefits to your practice and to patients?
The patients are happy when their fillings aren’t falling out, of course. No news is good news in that situation.

If the patients don’t need to have their fillings replaced, it reduces overhead and wasted chair time, having to setup and cleanup a chair, and overall efficiency. It also makes patient satisfaction go up because I am using a good product.

I could use that time where I might have had to replace a filling because of a lesser adhesive on a patient that needs primary care instead.

Why would you recommend this product to your colleagues?
Overall it’s a great product in that it’s reliable, easy to use and comes in a small bottle that’s easy to use during the procedure. Some of the other products are not, like where you had to shake the bottle to mix it or some others that required extra steps. Also, this product is clear, so I’m confident that it’s not going to affect the color of the composite.

It’s very simple and straightforward.

Featured Product

Prime&Bond Elect®

This universal dental adhesive is designed to put the control back in the clinician’s hands. Whether you use it for selective-etch, self-etch or total-etch procedures, it features high-bond strength and virtually no post-operative sensitivity for patients. The key to its success is the Prime&Bond® NT™ technology, clinically proven PENTA resin technology used to chase away moisture enabling a stronger bond and a tighter seal. PENTA technology also enables a stronger bond whether clinicians use direct or indirect materials on the dentin and enamel.
