Digital impression scans captured by the CS 3600 can now be launched directly from exocad’s database software.

Carestream Dental and exocad, a dental CAD/CAM software solutions provider, are announcing a partnership to offer direct interaction between the CS 3600 intraoral scanner and exocad ChairsideCAD software that allows clinicians to capture digital impressions directly from the software.

Digital impression scans captured by the CS 3600 can now be launched directly from exocad’s database software. Once acquired, the data set is automatically stored in the exocad database and can be immediately processed in exocad’s ChairsideCAD software.

For the optimal restorative planning experience, exocad ChairsideCAD software can be used with the CS 3600 and CS 3100 milling system for a comprehensive chairside experience. Features like Smart Milling Queue Management mean there’s no need to wait until a restoration is completely milled to capture new digital impressions, design additional restorations, or place other cases in the milling queue. In fact, tooth restoration can reportedly be completed in as little as one hour, eliminating the need for temporary crowns and multiple appointments.

“Carestream Dental is about streamlining workflows,” says Ed Shellard, DMD, chief dental officer, Carestream Dental. “By reducing clicks, we make it easier and more efficient for doctors to go from scanning to designing. Fortunately, Carestream Dental and exocad’s new interaction will help save time for doctors and patients alike.”

The CS 3600 is said to create precise, detailed HD 3D digital impressions that are highly accurate, while offering an easier acquisition method than using traditional PVS impressions. The scanner’s high-speed continuous scanning makes capturing dual arches faster and easier. Plus, ergonomically designed, rounded autoclavable and reusable tips reportedly lead to a more comfortable and hygienic scanning experience for patients.

Interaction with exocad’s design software ChairsideCAD provides oral health professionals with direct access to world-class restorative design software. ChairsideCAD is reportedly the first complete open-architecture CAD/CAM software platform for single-visit dentistry. The chairside workflow is streamlined, easy to learn and optimized for usage in the practice, including a step-by-step guide through the design process. It’s based on the same proven technology as exocad’s “best-of-breed” lab software, renowned for its reliability and robust features. In just a few steps, exocad. ChairsideCAD is engineered to create highly aesthetic proposals with minimal post processing.

“The cooperation with Carestream Dental supports our goal to provide technology that helps clinicians take maximum advantage of digital processes,” says Tillmann Steinbrecher, CEO of exocad. “With this interaction, we provide CS 3600 users a seamless workflow from scanning to designing. Thanks to our software and the smooth interaction, we help customers to maximize the return on their hardware investment.”

At IDS 2019, a preview of the upcoming ChairsideCAD version will also be demonstrated, providing further enhanced functionality, including the ability to quickly design implant-based restorations. These can be manufactured efficiently with the CS 3100 milling machine, further enhancing the spectrum of indications of the versatile CAD/CAM system.
