E-book: Simple ways to boost your practice image

While dentists have dedicated years to building up a practice and clinical expertise, making a lasting impression on a patient only takes a fraction of a second.

While dentists have dedicated years to building up a practice and clinical expertise, making a lasting impression on a patient only takes a fraction of a second.

“You make a judgment visually about someone within less than a tenth of a second,” says Janice Hurley-Trailor, an image consultant who specializes in professional makeovers for people and practices.

Your image is more than just the appearance of your team or reception area. Patients are often sizing up your practice from the moment they park their car, call your office or browse your website. Far from being superficial, your image deeply affects your influence, and everyday, you are influencing patients toward better health.

“Patients also base quality of dentistry and care based on the way you look as an individual and as a team,” says Hurley-Trailor.

In a new, free e-book, Janice Hurley-Trailor, whose clients include Wells Fargo, PayPal American Association of Endodontists, outlines simple – and cost-effective – ways to boost your practice image and attract the type of patient you want.

First of all, says Janice Hurley-Trailor, your team must decide what kind of patient they want to attract. For example, does your practice want to focus on families or would you prefer to not cater to children?

Hurley-Trailor defines ways to project an image – on and offline –  that shows you have impact and influence consistently so patients know what to expect, often with just a quick glance.

While it’s important to differentiate your practice based on the type of patient you want, there are key factors all patients expect from a healthcare provider, including showing that your practice is organized, professional, and warm and inviting.

To make the best impression with patients, Hurley-Trailor’s recommends surveying at the entire practice from the patient’s point of view, engaging conversational techniques, implementing a dress code and possibly going paperless.

WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR IMAGE ONLINE

The editors at Dental Products Report and Dental Lab Products have long been champions of using social media and web tools to project your practice image.

Dentists must make their online presence a priority, says Hurley-Trailor.

Your practice can easily stand out by using high-quality photos to your site and social media profiles, especially Google Plus, Yelp, Citysearch and Healthgrades. Hurley-Trailor recommends hiring a professional photographer to create clean, consistent images to attract the patients you want while offering tips to make the most of your photo shoot.
