The best and worst states to work in a dental practice: 2017

From 1 to 50, we looked at each state to see how it really stacks up for dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and dental front office team members.

    Maine

Over the last two years, Maine dropped from number 25 in our rankings to number 32. Why? Well, for starters, their overall well-being ranking dropped from 14 to 30. They also dropped in number of people who visited the dentist. However, the residents of the Pine Tree States have other things to be glad about (in addition to, you know, living in one of the most beautiful places in the world): Maine ranks in the top 10 in terms of safety, and its education and financial savviness rankings are respectable at 22. Unfortunately, those facts are coupled with a bottom-three finish in dental habits.

Median income 30 Financial savvy 22
    Dental habits 47 Education 22
    Oral health 36 Safety/crime 8
    Overall well-being 30 % uninsured 24
Cost of living 38 % on Medicaid 42
% who visited dentist in last year 33 Total score 332
