The best and worst states to work in a dental practice: 2017

From 1 to 50, we looked at each state to see how it really stacks up for dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and dental front office team members.

    South Dakota

Remaining steady at number 19, North Dakota's southern sister ranks 32nd for education level and 29th for violent crime, both statistics that drove its overall ranking lower. However, Mount Rushmore shouldn't be the only draw for prospective residents: This grassland state ranked ninth in overall well-being and eighth in visits to the dentist, despite its #28 ranking for median income and a below average rank for cost of living (#34).

Median income 28 Financial savvy 11
    Dental habits 22 Education 32
    Oral health 14 Safety/crime 29
    Overall well-being 9 % uninsured 33
Cost of living 34 % on Medicaid 9
% who visited dentist in last year 8 Total score 229
