Statistically, dentists have a higher stress rate than other professionals, with some studies going as far as to say dentists and doctors suffer from a higher suicide rate than people in other professions. Chad Lefevre, VP of Business Development at CT Dental, said these statistics stem from the fact that dentists, who are very talented experts in their field and area of practice, lack support when it comes to the business side of dentistry and that causes additional stress. “Dentists are often times not supported in terms of how to run a business, how to manage things like marketing and business development, which can create a lot of stress for them in addition to their profession,” Lefevre said. Seeing a unique opportunity within the dental industry, Lefevre and CT Dental’s other founding members—each bringing their own expertise in areas such as hospitality, software and technology and education—created an exclusive online portal for dentists that provides them with the business support they desire, unique educational and training tools and access to a wide range of exclusive travel opportunities and other high-end lifestyle amenities. Co-creators Wanting to create an environment where dentists can feel as if they are contributing to the creation of CT Dental, Lefevre and company have established a trial period during the month of December that dentists can sign up for beginning in October. During this period, for a discounted rate, dentists can gain access to the exclusive portal and give their insight as to what they like and dislike about the site. “To become members, they will have to purchase access to the club,” Lefevre said. “With respect to the trial period, we’ve reduced to a very nominal fee, a trial period membership fee so dentists who really want to get in there and co-create with us have the ability to do so. That price point is $199 one time no-obligation fee.” Core areas “CT Dental is compromised of four core areas,” Lefevre said. “There is the dental products area, dental prosthetics area, the campus section that centers around education and standards of care training and then there is the lifestyle section.” Products CT Dental’s product catalog, which members have access to, is designed to simplify the product selection process and is comprised of the products members want most. Projecting to have between 5,000-7,500 products, Lefevre said the catalog will be a great balance between high quality products. He said many dentists often buy the most expensive product within a product category, assuming it will be the best. “They don’t have time to shop around, so we are trying to simplify their life,” he said. “The key here is that as a member of CT Dental, you get access to wholesale pricing on products. So dentists are going to be getting discounts on products that as a result will drive up their profit margins.” Prosthetics With prosthetics it’s the same thing, Lefevre explained. Arguably the largest bit of overhead that a dentist has to manage on a monthly basis, CT Dental is working on establishing affiliate labs across the country to help drive down costs by offering volume buying. “When you’re talking about crowns, veneers, implants and those types of things, that consumes a lot of monthly expense for the dentist,” he said.
