Competitive edge : meetings

Summer fun

Though the real attraction to industry events is the educational value, there’s plenty of leisure to go with your business travel.

The primary goal of trade events is the dissemination of industry-specific information through lectures, workshops, vendor interaction and networking opportunities. An added bonus is often the activities meeting planners schedule to further accentuate the learning in a more-relaxed, social setting.

All work and no play...
Upcoming dental laboratory industry meetings have leisure built in to their attractions just based on their locations, but also with planned activities for attendees.

The Southern States Symposium & Expo presented by the FDLA will be held May 7-9 at the Buena Vista Palace in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., just steps from Downtown Disney’s entertainment, dining, and shopping and a short shuttle, cab, or car ride from hundreds of Orlando attractions. In addition, the Matheson Memorial Heraeus Scrap Refining golf tournament will tee off the meeting Thursday morning with networking for players. For details, contact the Florida Dental Laboratory Association at 850-224-0711 or visit www.fdla.net.

The award-winning Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Spa in San Diego will be the venue for the Academy of CAD/CAM Dentistry’s annual meeting May 27-30. For information on the program visit www.acadcamdent.com or call 800-836-2484 or 619-466-4900.

A little farther on but deserving a mark on your calendar, the Fun ‘n Sun Weekend will be held at the Beau Rivage Hotel & Casino in the Gulf city of Biloxi, Miss., August 6-9. Sponsored by the Louisiana and Mississippi Dental Laboratory Associations, the meeting combines top-notch education and camaraderie wrapped up in true Southern hospitality. For program details, call 336-835-9251 or visit www.fun-n-sun-weekend.com.

Taking Care of Business
Other meetings coming up during June focus on the education, while leaving the leisure to the attendee’s imagination.

With a Sonoran Desert backdrop, the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics will host its 27th annual meeting June 6 at the Marriott at McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Ariz. For information, call 480-588-8062.

Featuring a faculty of renowned speakers from around the world, Independent Seminars will sponsor the World Aesthetic Congress June 12-13 at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London. Information is available at www.independentseminars.com.

That same weekend, Quintessence Publishing and Case Western Reserve University will cosponsor the First International Symposium on Comprehensive Care at the InterContinental Hotel in Cleveland. For program and registration information, contact Quintessence at 630-736-3600 or 800-621-0387 or visit www.quintpub.com.

For laboratory owners and technicians working with clinicians on high-end implant treatment, the 3rd International Congress on 3-D Dental Imaging will present information on the latest interdisciplinary techniques with cone beam CT imaging and related software and products June 19-20 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. For information, contact the i-CAT Imaging Institute at 800-205-3570 or visit www.i-cat3d.com.

Also June 19, the NYU 4th Annual Ceramic Symposium will bring together clinicians and technicians to discuss “Education—The Foundation for Changing Times,” at the New York University School of Dentistry. Richard Pavlak, CDT, MDT, will moderate the distinguished panel of practitioners and ceramists who will provide insight into the importance of continuing education in modern dentistry. For registration information, contact the school at dentalcde@nyu.edu or 212-998-9757, or visit www.nyu.edu/dental/ce.
