Step-by-Step PressX Zr

Pressing versatility

Whether pressing over zirconia, layering, or pressing-and-staining,
the versatile PressX Zr system does it all.

Information provided by Wieland Dental Systems Inc.

Developed to match the properties of the company’s Zeno Tec CAD/CAM system and Zirox veneering ceramic, PressX Zr ceramic is indicated for overpressing full-ceramic frameworks, including single crowns and three-unit bridges, to zirconia using the buildup-and-stain techniques. It also can produce inlays, onlays, and veneers without a zirconia substructure using the press-and-stain technique. Offering a high fracture strength of 125 MPa and pressing temperature of 1060ºC, PressX Zr leucite-free ceramic is a highly versatile material.

Following are step-by-step instructions on using PressX Zr with three different techniques.

(refer to slideshow for figures)

CAD/CAM Overpress

The Zeno Tec CAD/CAM system can simultaneously design and mill a zirconia framework and PMMA wax overstructure.

01 Scan the master model and design the framework using Dental Designer software (Figs. A and B).

02 Simultaneously and automatically, the software designs the ceramic bridge for milling from the PMMA material and pressing (Fig. C).

03 Simultaneously mill the zirconia framework and PMMA wax form (Figs. D and E).

04 Join the zirconia framework and milled wax form and seal the cervical areas with wax (Figs. F and G).

05 Sprue, invest, and press the ceramic bridge (Fig. H).

Layering technique

06 Wax up the dentin core (Fig. I). Note: The circular shoulder is fabricated with cervical wax.

07 Sprue, invest, and press the three-unit bridge and layer with Zirox veneering ceramics (Figs. J and K).

08 After the first dentin bake, correct the ceramic bridge with water-cooled abrasives (Fig. L).

09 Apply PressX Zr Glaze in a thick layer and fire (Fig. M).

Stain technique

10 Design, mill, and sinter crown framework and join together with milled anatomical PMMA wax form (Fig. N ).

11 Fabricate the circular shoulder with cervical wax, invest, and press (Fig. O).

12 Check the fit, and adjust occlusion and contacts.

13 Choose the appropriate PressX Zr Bodystain and apply in a thick and even consistency, then fire under vacuum.

14 Mix PressX Zr Glaze to a jelly-like consistency and apply in a thick layer and then fire (Figs. P and Q).
