Applying New Technologies: EnvisionTEC
® DDP

High-volume waxing

The EnvisionTEC DDP® 3D printer produces batches of precise waxups automatically.

Information provided by Zahn Dental Co. Inc.

Using advanced Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing technology, the EnvisionTEC DDP (Digital Dental Printing) rapid prototyping system automates the production of 3D wax/resin patterns suitable for casting or pressing procedures that are ash-free, freeing technicians for tasks other than manual waxing. Due to the high resolution aided by the exceptional functionality of the Dental Wings scanner and software, the system reportedly is able to print thin, precise margins at a consistent, even thickness for both crown and bridge substructures and full anatomical wax crowns. The machine produces between 25 and 60 single-unit crowns and from 10 to 30 bridges per batch during a production cycle of 2 to 4 hours. Castable or biocompatible materials can be used. EnvisonTec DDP accepts STL files output by the Dental Wings Scanner (5S, 3S, IS), 3M Lava Scanner, iTero intraoral scanner, and 3Shape Scanner. The machine comes with a 1-year warranty on parts and labor.

Features

• Open-architecture 3D printer creates physical wax/resin patterns from virtual 3D designs

• Employs Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology

and visible light to cure different resins

• 3D prints wax/resin copings, bridge frameworks,

and full anatomical waxups for use with pressing or casting technologies

• Zero material waste

• Accepts STL data from all major scanner brands

• Can produce up to 60 full anatomical waxups in a single 3-hour cycle

• Prints on the X, Y, and Z axes respectively with a

16-micron resolution

• Each substructure identified by individual 3D printed tag to ensure accurate processing match

Wax/resin full-anatomical waxups are built on X, Y, and Z axes with 16-micron accuracy for optimum marginal fit. The high-production, fast-build DLP process results in zero waste.

The system is able to print 240 copings in a 12-hour period (stacked). Pins printed on each unit act as casting sprues, eliminating the need for post processing.

The 3D printed wax/resin bridge framework and coping (top) is then conveniently invested and cast, resulting in a precise-fitting bridge framework and crown coping (bottom).
